Anti Wrinkle Injections (Botulinum Toxin)

When we frown, laugh, or smile our muscles in our face contract this forms wrinkles and lines to our face which may be commonly known as “forehead lines” or “worry lines” “laughter lines” or “crows feet”. These lines and wrinkles over time become much deeper and more permanent.

Relaxing the muscles that cause lines

What is Botox ?

Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium.  Botox injections is a non-surgical treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe lines.  During treatment, very low doses of  Botox are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines.  The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed.  Within days, you may see an improvement that can last on average 4 months.

How does Botox work ?

Those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows form over time as the result of muscle activity.  Botox is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.

What happens prior to my Botox treatment ?

Our Nurse Practitioner will undertake a thorough face to face consultation.  This will include an examination of  your muscle activity. An in-depth medical consultation will take place this ensures  you are suitable  for the Botox treatment. Our Nurse Practitioner is a Nurse Prescriber so will prescribe this drug for you , this ensures an holistic approach to your treatment. Before and after photographs will be taken on your consent. You will then be asked to return 2-3 weeks later for your follow up appointment.

How is Botox administered ?

Tiny amounts of Botox are injected using a disposable syringe, into the muscles that cause the skin to crease and furrow.  Because a very fine needle is used, most clients find that there is only mild and temporary discomfort. The entire procedure takes no longer than a few minutes.

Are there any side effects  to Botox ?

Side effects of this treatment are rare some common side effects include mild headache, nausea slight bruised feeling to injection sites.  These usually subside over a few days. In less than 1% of people treated with wrinkle relaxing injections can cause weakness in muscles near the site of injection resulting in slight and temporary droop of the eyelid or eyebrow.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural after my Botox treatment ?

Although the results are visible, a treatment  will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done".  The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows if this is what you wish. Your treatment will be tailored to the end results you would like.

Who should not have Botox ?

Studies have not been performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.  Although Botox treatments are not thought to be dangerous, treatment is best avoided during this time.  Some people with certain muscle diseases may also not be suitable.
