IPL Treatment for Acne
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments can be effective in treating acne alone or in combination with exfoliating treatments such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion. The light that is emitted from the IPL directly targets the overactive sebaceous glands. This targeted heating causes the sebaceous glands to shrink and in turn helps to prevent the over production of excess sebum, lessening the inflammation and occurrence of breakouts. The treatment also stimulates the production of collagen, smoothing the skin and boosting the healing process as well as lessening the appearance of the red of the brown areas of discolouration commonly associated with acne breakouts
Most people will require at least 6 IPL treatments spaced two weeks apart and results will be enhanced when combined with microdermabrasion or chemicals peels in between each session.
The treatments typically last 30 minutes each and most people are suitable for treatment apart from very dark skinned or tanned individuals or if you have been taking Roaccutane recently.
Skin can become red immediately following treatment but this normally subsides a couple of hours afterwards.
